TEXAS

DIRECT ADOPTIONS

Sometimes the perfect home is simply somewhere else.

North Texas has a tremendous number of wonderful dogs—and not always enough local adopters to give every one of them the home they deserve.

Ticket Outta Texas connects our dogs directly with adopters in areas where families are actively looking for them.

We don’t adopt dogs out of state just to move dogs. We take the time to learn who each dog is, what they need, and what kind of home will allow them to thrive. Then we look beyond our own backyard to find that match.

For the dog, it means a new beginning. For the adopter, it means finding a companion who may never have crossed their path otherwise. And for North Texas, it creates something incredibly valuable: space.

Every successful out-of-area adoption opens a foster spot, a kennel, or a place in our program for another dog who needs help. It allows us to continue working alongside North Texas shelters and communities without being limited entirely by the number of local homes available.

Every Ticket Outta Texas dog travels ready for their new life. Before leaving Texas, every dog receives a complete veterinary evaluation and is fully vetted for travel, including spay/neuter, age- and destination-appropriate vaccinations, and any other medical care they need. Each dog also receives a USDA-accredited health certificate before departure, ensuring they arrive healthy, prepared, and ready to meet their new family.

Ticket Outta Texas isn't about sending dogs away. It's about expanding the map of possibility.

RESCUE TRANSFERS

Rescue is a team sport.

Not every dog we meet is meant to stay in our program—and that's okay. One of the most important things we can do is recognize when another rescue has the resources, experience, foster home, or adopter network that can give a particular dog a better path forward.

Ticket Outta Texas values rescue transfers because collaboration saves more lives than any one organization can do alone.

We work with reputable rescue partners outside North Texas to move dogs into communities where there is greater demand for adoption. A dog may leave a North Texas shelter and travel to a partner rescue in Colorado, the Midwest, the Pacific Northwest, or the Northeast, where that organization can take over the next chapter of their care.

This isn't about competing for dogs, adoption fees, or recognition. It's about putting the needs of the animal first.

North Texas has an enormous population of dogs and a limited number of available homes. When local rescues and shelters work together with organizations in less-saturated areas, we can create a much larger safety net.

A rescue transfer can mean:

  • A shelter dog gets out of a kennel and into a rescue program.

  • A foster home becomes available for another dog in crisis.

  • A North Texas rescue can say yes to the next animal who needs help.

  • Partner rescues gain access to wonderful dogs looking for homes.

  • Adoption demand in other parts of the country becomes an asset for North Texas—not competition.

We don't send our dogs out the door and hope for the best. Every dog traveling through Ticket Outta Texas is fully vetted before departure, including spay/neuter, required vaccinations for their destination, and any necessary medical care. Each dog receives a USDA-accredited health certificate before leaving Texas. Our rescue partners can trust that the dogs arriving in their care have been responsibly prepared for the journey and are ready for the next step in their placement.

The goal isn't to keep every dog here. The goal is to make sure every dog has a path forward.

Ticket Outta Texas is about connecting the abundant need in North Texas with the abundant opportunity beyond it.
